Dimensional Weight

It is an industry standard practice to charge special handling fees based on "Dimensional Weight" ("Dim Weight") when a package is relatively light compared to its volume. If the dimensional weight exceeds the actual weight, charges based on the dimensional weight will be assessed.

Calculate Dimensional Weight:

Billable weight will be determined by comparing actual weight to dimensional weight. The higher weight will be used for the shipment rating.

  • Multiply length by width by height in inches (e.g., 12" x 18" x 12" = 2592).
  • For GSO Priority Overnight (PDS, EPS, SDS) Shipments: Divide the cubic size by 166 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. Any fraction of a pound will be calculated at the next highest rate.
  • For GSO Ground (CPS) Shipments: If the cubic size of the package is 5,184 or larger, divide the cubic size by 166 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. If the cubic size is less than 5,184, use the actual weight of the package.
  • Compare the dimensional weight to actual weight, and use whichever is higher.

Oversized Packages

All packages exceeding 8ft. (96 inches) in length require special handling and will be subject to additional fees. If your package exceeds 96 inches in length, please contact Customer Service to determine service availability and pricing.
