Dimensional Weight
It is an industry standard practice to charge special handling fees based on dimensional (DIM) weight when a package is relatively light compared to its volume.
At GSO, dimensional weight pricing only applies when a package is 5,184 cubic inches or greater.
To Determine Billable Weight for both GSO Priority Overnight and Ground Shipments:
- Calculate the cubic size of the package by multiplying the length by width by height in inches (e.g., 12" x 18" x 12" = 2592).
- If the cubic size is less than 5,184, use the actual weight of the package.
- If the cubic size of the package is 5,184 or greater, you’ll need to calculate DIM weight by dividing the cubic size by 166. Any fraction of a pound will be calculated at the next highest rate.
- Compare the dimensional weight to the actual weight. If the dimensional weight is greater, GSO will apply DIM weight pricing.

Oversized packages require special handling and are subject to additional fees
GSO accepts packages up to 144” in length and up to 80,000 cubic inches (L x W x H).
Packages exceeding 96 inches in length will incur a $40 special handling fee.
Packages exceeding 120 inches in length will incur a $60 special handling fee.
